ATMs for Uneducated Customers

This is a proposal to convert ATMs to be accessible for uneducated customers in rural areas. The method uses audio to convey to the uneducated customer what she needs to do and color codes to get inputs from her.

Overview

Before going into the next generation of banking and the techniques and technologies that are going to change the future of banking, I would like to propose a solution to a rather simple problem, which I personally faced when I was working as an Assistant in a rural bank. Rural banks have a lot of uneducated customers, who do not want to use Debit cards. Though it is inconvenient for them to come to banks and stand in long queues every month, they do it because they cannot withdraw money in ATMs without others’ help and it is not secure for them to do so. We will try to make ATMs usable for an uneducated person.

Goals

All the options I am going to propose are specifically for the uneducated who will be having a different mode of use, working in parallel with other accounts, which will work normally as usual. The government may support this for financial inclusion and to help uneducated and rural customers embrace technology and are not left behind in the future when everything will depend on technology.

Specifications

First, uneducated customers believe that if they give their debit cards to some other person, they may misuse them. To overcome that every ATM should be equipped with a fingerprint detector. So instead of using a PIN, the account holder must come to the ATM and put in his/her fingerprint. Otherwise, these special accounts cannot be operated.

Process

Uneducated Customers can’t operate ATMs because they can’t read whatever is written in options. These options should be read aloud in their vernacular language and the options should be differentiated with different colors. For example, After I insert my card, automatically it will detect that I am an uneducated customer. After detecting it would say,

  1. Guten Tag gut aussehend, bitte stecken Sie Ihren Finger in den Fingerabdruckdetektor. ( German )

[ Good day Deepak kumar, Please put your finger in the fingerprint detector. ]

[ If you want to deposit money, Please press the white colour button ].

( Chinese)

[ If you want to withdraw money. Please press the blue colour button. ]

( French )

[ If you want to know the details about the last 5 transactions. Please press the Yellow Colour button. ]

Option colors should be different when compared to hard buttons to avoid confusion. No more options are necessary as these are the 3 important transactions an uneducated person would mostly want to perform.

If the customer wants to withdraw, it will open a withdrawal screen and tell the following.

[ You have chosen to withdraw money. Enter the amount you want to withdraw and press the white button. ]

This is the only time ever an uneducated Customer may need another person. But basically uneducated customers know numbers because they deal with household expenditure daily with currencies. After the customer presses the white button, the ATM will take you to another screen and read the amount.

  1. U wilt 1500 opnemen.

[ You want to withdraw 1500. If it is correct, please press the white button again.]

So that no miscreant can change the amount in case the customer gets any help. Next, there is an option Mini- Statement. This will enable customers to check the last 5 transactions. These last 5 transactions will be shown on the screen. When you press these options, it will read out your transaction in your language one at a time.

  1. [  You have withdrawn INR 500 from Wall Street ATM on 28-Nov-1983 morning 10:00 ]. ( When a genius was born )

Since technology is growing at a fast pace, uneducated customers can have a family member who will have a smartphone. We can introduce a new app exclusively for uneducated persons just to view Passbook with no other operations. Voice Passbook. It will be read out in their language as the Mini statement. These things will largely reduce the crowd in rural branches and help rural customers to embrace technology.

Deposit and Withdrawal Automation

This method makes the cashier’s work simple and transactions like deposits and withdrawals can be done with speed, and efficiency without any error whatsoever. This method automates the deposits and withdrawals that are done by cashiers in banks or Institutions that handle cash. Introduction It is a common practice in rural Banks, where people don’t use ATMs to Deposit or Withdraw money. Also not everyone has adopted digital transactions still. So, anyway people go to Banks and wait for their turns. So, it is necessary to automate the Withdrawal and Deposit process, to avoid fraud, and to provide easy transactions. We are going to use two methods for Deposit Automation. The first is with the help of Kiosks, installed on Bank premises. Second, takes advantage of a Mobile Banking App, which is hugely beneficial for hassle-free transactions. We will also discuss withdrawal with the help of kiosks. In all the above methods, cash is handled only by the Cashier. Deposit with Kiosks Let...

Bar Chart Software for assisting Bank Cashiers

This is a software that comes in handy for cashiers to determine the denominations of different notes of cash, which need to be given to the customer during withdrawal from customer in a cash counter. It is an assisting software, that makes the work of the cashier easy and error-free, at the same time decreasing the transaction time of the process. Using Bar Chart Software to make Cashier’s job simple It is common practice in banks, to appoint cashiers, who dole out cash, using currency notes of different denominations. Usually, it is difficult to find Currency Notes, which totals to exact Amount, the customer demands. I am proposing a method to make cashier’s job, quite easy using a Bar Chart Software. Existing method Let us first get into the existing method, banks are using. For every transaction, cashier has to put denominations of each note in the existing Software, to total up to the Amount, the customer demands. For example, If the Customer needs INR 25,500, Cashier has to find ...
